A Million Miles in a Thousand Years

I finished this book last night. I had asked for it for Christmas, on account of good reviews, but was worried it might be a bit pretentious. Or at least slightly disappointing, because most things don’t live up to their hype.
And I was disappointed, to a degree. Not because it was a bad book, but because it didn’t really tell me anything new. “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” only said the things that I had already been thinking about. Miller was insightful, but not innovative.
But there was one aspect of the book that I liked. Even though it seemed redundant, it did put all of my recent thoughts and worries into words. Everything I had had trouble explaining to myself was in this book, in sentences and paragraphs that I had failed to come up with on my own.
Essentially, it focuses on creating a “good story” with our lives—making sure that we stand up to conflict, be people of action, and most importantly, seize the day. There’s also a religious angle involved, but I won’t get into that.
Anyway, just a short little review on something that has gotten me thinking recently. I think I want to make this my New Year’s resolution, too. To live a better story.
